"A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost." ~Marion C. Garretty

Nov. 14, 2009 Deer camp family night

I grew up in a family of hunters and participated at a young age, along with my 2 sisters, in this tradition. I rarely go anymore, but still get very nostalgic this time of year and love any chance to go to deer camp and be around the excitement.  Trey has already taken Ava hunting this year (the pics are posted on this blog back in September- so cute!) and she loved it.  Watching her ride off with Trey in her camo and little pink gun was such a flashback from my childhood. Maybe if mom reads this she may add some pics. (especially of my 9 pt. in 2005!)

Sat. was opening day of gun season - a BIG deal in south Arkansas. A sidenote, it was also the weekend our church hosted a marriage and family seminar. Because I know how important this weekend is, I told Trey I didn't expect him to go to the seminar. Plus, Fri. nights he's scheduled to be at Scrapper games as one of the commentators for the local TV station. He totally surprised me by skipping the game and half the morning's hunt to come to the seminar with me. We had a great time with our church friends and Trey's parents. The speakers, Glenn and Cindy Colley, were wonderful. If you ever get a chance to hear them, take advantage of it! We're both glad we went. I'm extremely proud of Trey for his great attitude and wanting to support this event, even if he did wear his "I LOVE (it when) MY WIFE  (lets me go deer hunting!)" t-shirt to the seminar Sat. morning!  I know I am very blessed to be married to such a devoted Christian man, and he's a wonderful daddy too!

Back to deer season, my sisters came in from Searcy and Little Rock for the occasion. I called Antoine for a deer report and learned Valerie got a buck! I wonder if any other female Clinton school students went hunting this weekend?

Sat. night was family night at BRC (Briar Ridge Camp) The members honored Trey's granddaddy, Paw, as the founder of the club and longtime member. They all took turns sharing stories about hunting with Paw from past years and presented him with a plaque. Ava and Isabel love deer camp and I'm so glad the tradition is being passed on to them.  They got to watch one of the hunters work on his deer and roast hot dogs and marshmallows.  Coleen brought her signature red beans and rice and broccoli cornbread for us all to enjoy.  It was a very memorable event and a perfect way to spend a cool fall evening.
